An impact report for a UK reforestation charity, built to be read by scrolling and to end at a donation. The whole page weighs 480KB, where a report like this usually runs to several megabytes.
Visit the live site treeline-uk.pages.devTreeline UK plants native forest back onto land that lost it, across seven landscapes from the Amazon to the Western Ghats. This is their year, told as a web page rather than the usual heavy PDF: you scroll through what they did, the trees planted and the carbon drawn down, and at the end you can give. The charity is fictional, built to show we can tell a data story and keep it light.
The centrepiece is a slowly turning globe marking where they work, with each planting site picked out on it. We wrote it in raw WebGL rather than reaching for a 3D library, so it costs a fraction of the weight. It turns gently and holds still where the scroll wants it. For anyone who has asked for less motion, it stops.
The page is static, with no framework running behind it, so it comes in around 480KB. The donation flow is a plain form with set amounts and a live note of what each one pays for, and a small newsroom sits behind the report. Payment is mocked for the demo.
